About the Designs
Nope! Each design was created with the intention of printing the frame and each color separately, then assembling. This saves you from wasting filament and makes my designs accessible to more people.
The frame and colored pieces are on separate places within the .3MF file. You print the frame and then each color of pieces. For more tips on print settings, see Printing and Assembly.
You can purchase my designs on my Etsy store WolfAndWyrmStudio. If there is interest, I will also set up a Patreon account in the future.
If you purchase a design, the files will be provided as .3MF files; you will receive both a non-AMS and an AMS version. I tested using STL files, but the results were inconsistent when imported, and color settings cannot be included in an STL file.
Printing and Assembly
I recommend printing the frame first, then printing a single color. If they fit together as printed, great! If not, you may need to adjust the X and Y axis dimensions either up or down by .1% (note that is POINT ONE percent – not a whole percent!). This really seems to be printer specific. Do not adjust the Z axis as this controls the thickness of the print, and you want the frame and color pieces to be the same thickness,
On my BambuLab P1S, everything prints fine when at the exact same percentage size. On my H2C, I get a better piece fit if I size the frame DOWN .1% on both the X and Y axis.
Sometimes. If your machine is well-calibrated and you have a good fit, the pieces may not need glue. However, I find that the finished pieces are more durable and sturdy if you glue pieces AFTER they are in place. I use a PLA and PET-G compatible glue and trace on the back of the piece along the outlines, particularly for larger or looser fit pieces.
Typically, the designs go together pretty easily. If you have a piece that is difficult to get in, I recommend using a flat, solid surface to press on the piece and snap it in – a tongue depressor or craft stick works well. You may also find it easier to insert some pieces from the back of the frame.
Warping can sometimes occur if the fit of the pieces is TOO tight. I recommend printing the frame slightly larger (.1%) on the X and Y axis. If the fit is then too loose, use super glue as described above.
